Hypnotherapy is the natural treatment modality for the creative person, as the hallmark of creativity is the open-mindedness of a child. Open-mindedness is suggestibility, which is exactly what the power of hypnosis is built upon. As a former opera singer, stand-up comic and actress myself, I am quite comfortable treating performing artists with hypnotherapy. Treating scores of Hollywood artists from producers, to film directors, actors, singers, comedians, composers, models, announcers and other name personalities, I have found these are the top five issues in demand for relief through hypnosis:
- Writer’s Block. Nearly every screenwriter has experienced writer’s block at some point. I work with writers to dissolve the frustrations, welcome the deadlines as a channel for creative expression, and allow an unstoppable flow of creativity.
- Audition Anxiety. Many young and seasoned performers suffer audition anxiety, and many established names still have to take meetings. These events can wreak havoc on the nervous system, stopping creativity and thwarting the joy of creative flow. Hypnosis can open the blocked channels, plug you into your character, and keep you performing from a place of passion vs. fear.
- Aging in Hollywood. While there is certainly ageism in nearly every industry, perhaps no one feels that pressure more than creative artists, particularly those who are in front of the camera. Hypnotherapy honors the special beauty of each age and the timeless, ageless nature of creativity.
- Competition Intimidation. To compete means to strive for an objective; to feel intimidated means to be made timid. Most performers are natural competitors, yet have an underlying need for approval. This can present as a conflict – – a dichotomy between confidence and feelings of inadequacy. Hollywood attracts the best of the best. Hypnosis can help creative artists to compete only with themselves. In that place of power, there is no timidity, just pure creativity.
- Celebrity Stress. Many creative artists are highly sensitive persons, making the pressure of celebrity particularly challenging. Young ones, in particular, can be vulnerable to self-abuse without tools to manage the extreme stresses and pressures of the public eye. Hypnotherapy has proven helpful to many in relieving the panic to look “perfect” at all times, say the right thing at all times, and the expectation to “be myself, yet what they expect” at once, body image issues, insomnia, entitlement issues, and more. Although I was hardly a celebrity when I was a professional stand-up comic, I worked with many household names and understand the dynamics. My clinic offers a private entrance/exit for anonymity; I also make house calls if you would like in-person, face to face hypnosis in the comfort of your home or office.
