Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day always reminds me to pause and reflect and show respect for the Greatest Generation that fought in WWII. My own father, pictured above here, was a fresh Citadel graduate on that auspicious day in 1941. He was at the Presidio, training for active duty to fulfill his Army service commitment. He bravely fought for the next four years in the South Pacific theatre, like so many thousands of other young men (there were no women in active duty at that time in the Armed Forces). Some never returned. My father was lucky enough to do so and went on to serve in the National Guard and became a Retired Brigadier General.
If you are ever in Honolulu, visit the hallowed site of the USS Arizona Memorial, where it all began…where over 900 crewmen to this day remain entombed of the 1,177 who were trapped on that dark day when the ship was sunk.

Thank you to all brave souls who fought to ensure our freedom and keep the American dream alive. And thank you to all those brave men and women in the Armed Services today who continue to do so. RESPECT.
