While many of us are still experiencing economic challenges now, it’s important to re-commit to health now more than ever. With health insurance companies raising premiums right and left, why not invest in the best health insurance policy of all: yourself?
Just imagine if you were given one car that you could drive for the rest of your life. You’d probably treat it like a Lamborghini. You’d get regular oil changes, drive it enough but not too much, and I’m sure you’d never dream of putting Diesel fuel into a regular engine. Well, your body is your only vehicle for life. You can choose to give it the fuel that it by nature requires…lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables. At birth, you were given this one body for life, and with it the choice to allow it to be the best it can possibly be, or trash it.
The human body is an amazing machine. It works for us 24/7 for 80, 90, or 100 years or more. From birth, every cell in the human body knows exactly how to do its job. We don’t have to do a thing except, of course, service and maintain it properly with healthy food/beverages, sufficient sleep and ample exercise. While we’d never dream of shampooing our hair with eye contact solution, or putting shampoo in our eyes, many of us do not stop and think about how we are treating our internal organs. Sucks that we can’t see them, but if we could, boy would we wake up! Start questioning everything you eat and drink and tracking exactly what they do to your organs and in your digestive system. If you choose junk foods (or “stupid” foods as I call them) your bones, skin, tissue, heart, etc., don’t get what they by nature require for nutrition. If you drink too much alcohol, your liver begins to break down. If you smoke, your lungs become charred. You get the picture….
Let’s look at the math: if you work out for one hour a day, sleep 8 hours a night, and allow one hour for 3 healthy meals a day, you only invest half the hours that your body does: 12/24. We really have an incredible deal!
Piggybacking on that, if you invest 12 hours a day in your health, and you work 8 hours a day, you still have 4 hours left for your family, hobbies, commuting, chores, etc.
If you neglect your health, you are sending your body a message that it’s not all that important to you. And we all know what can happen when we take something for granted. Even if money is tight, you can power walk, run, bike, hike, work out to a DVD, or with a TV class. If you don’t make time for your health, the day may come when it just refuses to make time for you.
So turn off the TV and turn up your respect for that miraculous gift you got at birth: your body.
