“Money, if it does not bring you happiness, will at least help you be miserable in comfort.”
~ Helen Gurley Brown
About 20 years ago, when I was completing graduate school and opening a private practice, I was at a party and met a woman whose light and smile were so vibrant I nearly knocked the place over to get an introduction. Her name was (and still is!) Chellie Campbell. She’d just released a book called THE WEALTHY SPIRIT, which sounded so amazing and quite timely for me. I left the party early, drove straight to the bookstore (this was before I was an Amazon Prime customer), and bought her book. I devoured it in way less than the recommended one-a-day reading of this 365-page book of priceless (pun intended) vignettes and affirmations about attracting, managing, and respecting money.
I absolutely credit this book and the simple, smart principles it presents in building my business so solidly. I continuously re-read this book, even though after 20 years, it has yellowed with age and has many, many pages dog-eared and starred and highlighted. It is part of my morning ritual for getting grounded, grateful, and committed to growing.
Not to brag, but no one could believe how quickly I built my practice. Yes, I was (and still am) impassioned about helping people heal and attain their own life goals, but businesses can’t run on passion alone. Chellie generously shares lessons learned from all the mistakes she’s made as well as simple, realistic, and inspiring tenets for creating success not only with money but with life.
How lucky I was to be at that party that day and meet that writer. (Wait, was that really luck, or my own wealthy spirit attracting what I wished to create?)
“Money doesn’t change you. It reveals who you are when you no longer have to be nice.”
~ Tim Ferriss
